WildCard Plus SSL Certificates have been launched recently by DigiCert. A typical wildcard certificate for *.digicert.com will work with names like www.digicertִcom and mail.digicert.com, but not digicert.com itself. This comes as a disappointment to administrators most of the times. They want to protect both https://wwwִdigicertִcom and https://digicertִcom with the same certificate.

Christopher Skarda, DigiCert's Director of Security Services, stated: "Some of our customers have problems securely connecting to their company mail server, because their mobile devices do not support wildcard name matching. We found that many of these mobile devices do support Subject Alternative Names. By putting the wildcard (e.g. *.digicert.com) and the mail server name (e.g. mail.digicert.com) into the same certificate, we found a way to enable devices to accept the specific host name. In the past, the only option was to purchase a separate SSL Certificate. Wildcard Plus resolves this issue, saving our customers both time and money. Best of all, this feature is available to all of our existing and new customers at no extra charge"

DigiCert WildCard Plus also solves compatibility issues with certain mobile devices. In conjunction with DigiCert's Unlimited Server License (included with all WildCard SSL Certificates), the new WildCard Plus feature will offer system administrators the possibility to name up to ten specific sub-domains to be placed in the certificate, resolving issues with the star (*) syntax.

DigiCert WildCard Plus resolves this issue by including the base domain in every wildcard certificate as a subject alternative name, a little-used but well-supported capability of SSL certificates. DigiCert's Director of Web Development, Jeff Snider, added: "But we care about our customers, and this meets our number one priority: responding to their needs."

DigiCert SSL certification uses the exact same web standard as the more expensive certificates like Thawte and Verisign - but at a Fraction of the Cost. They offer 256 Bit protection; so do we. So why would you pay more? Even more, their digital certificates are compliant with over 99% of all web browsers, unlike some companies' certificates that are much less compatible.

The company is specializied in High-Assurance SSL Certificate and Identity Assurance Services globally, to a variety of markets including education, business and government. DigiCert is a WebTrust certified certificate authority and a member of the CA/Browser Forum and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). DigiCert offers its customers with innovative solutions at value pricing and is committed to exemplary support.
