Beeing the Technology Specialist for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) in Salt Lake City, Utah, for 24 years, Doug Winslow's key focus is the installation and maintenance of the 297 Point of Sale (POS) systems at the Church's 43 area thrift stores. With 90 percent of goods coming from church congregations and the Salt Lake City community, the stores are stocked primarily through donations, the remaining goods are manufactured by the Church specifically for resale in the stores.
Under an initiative called PCI (Payment Card Industry) Compliance, last year Winslow was notified that VISA was going to require all of its merchants who accepted VISA credit or debit cards to meet certain security regulations. To prevent hackers and viruses from corrupting card processing systems' and endangering the confidentiality of personally-identifiable customer data, all merchants were required, as a part of this initiative, to deploy a security solution.
In February 2008, Winslow purchased 300 licenses of AVG Network Edition Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware from the Leading Distributor of AVG Security Software in North America, Walling Data Systems, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that his purchase also came with free, Unlimited U.S.-based support by toll-free phone, email and "We-do-it-for-you" remote control support: All offerings provided exclusively by Walling.
Since he hadn't used it before, Winslow wanted to make sure he was deploying the software correctly, so he called Walling's toll-free support to walk him through the installation process.Winslow appreciates AVG's centralized remote administration, a feature which makes the software a popular choice among IT managers responsible for multiple sites, as there are only two Technology Specialists to support 43 stores. He says, Winslow comments: "With AVG, all I have to do is log into the central administrative console from my office and from there I can manage installations and updates to every system. It's easy to use, and doesn't hog system resources. I'd recommend it to anyone."
