System Detective reached the version v8.4. PointSecure, the developing company, announced the release a few days ago. The new version is offering host-based intrusion detection, real-time security monitoring and access control for OpenVMS systems. The program brings a powerful defense system against internal and external security threats by helping to enforce and ensure compliance with defined security policies on OpenVMS systems. System Detective helps administrators proactively manage security by recording session activity, managing unattended inactive terminal sessions, preventing access to sensitive data files or executable images, and by monitoring, assisting, or taking control of selected user sessions.
The company is the market leader in security products for the OpenVMS platform, helping companies defend OpenVMS systems from both external and internal security threats while ensuring compliance with security policies and governmental regulations such as HIPAA, GLBA and BS779. Clients include some of the largest OpenVMS installations in the world, including HP. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, PointSecure was founded by veterans in the OpenVMS and security management industry to provide proven, effective security technologies to the OpenVMS community.
The product offers the OpenVMS administrators the chance to centralize of all OpenVMS log files via remote node storage. By centralizing all session logs and event databases, OpenVMS administrators can save hours of time managing, reviewing, and defining global reports regarding critical OpenVMS system data.
Among the new features we can find: * Enhanced Protection of System Detective Files: Session log files can now be protected to prevent log file modification or abuse.
* Events entered in Session Log File: Events generated by System Detective are now entered into the session log file as well as the event database. These events can be output, played back, and formatted in a standard event display.
* Search & Autoprocess Log Files: A New SYSDET command allows administrators to search and select session log files based on certain criteria and create a single easy to read file for later review.
* Enhanced Actions to Control Rule Evaluation: New actions provide more flexibility allowing the exclusion of rules to be turned on or off in a section, and the evaluation of idle rules to be turned on or off for a given process.
