SPAMfighter Stops New Malware Infected Virginia Tech Spam Mail

    Spammers are known for taking advantage of large, often times tragic, events in order to scam interested and curious e-mail readers. This is no different in the case of the Virginia Tech shootings. Spammers are sending spam mails with a picture of gunman Cho Sueng Hui, and a link claiming to show video of the shootings taking place. When an e-mail user clicks on this link, there is no video, and instead a malicious screensaver is downloaded, installing a bank spyware trojan.

We at SPAMfighter are happy to filter this away so none of our users are effected by this spam mail, or malicious Trojan" The Trojan in this e-mail steals passwords, and banking information of unknowing computer users.     SPAMfighter is also filtering out others threats, which are being sent out with fraudulent charity websites, which make attempts to con money and credit card information from generous e-mail users who are only making an attempt to help. The program works by scanning incoming e-mails. If an e-mail is recognised to be spam, it will be automatically filtered from the user's inbox to a designated SPAMfighter folder. This prevents e-mail users from thinking e-mails like these are legitimate and therefore falling victim to the scam.

    The company is Europe's leading spam filter developer. It is owned by the founders of Jubii.dk, Henrik Sørensen and Martin Thorborg, together with two programmers, Daniel Hjortholt and Martin Dyring. SPAMfighter employs 35 people and is based in Copenhagen. The company is debt-free and is 100 per cent financed by income from the sale of the SPAMfighter client. Each day, SPAMfighter removes around 12 million spam messages from 15 million tested emails received by over 3.2 million users in 215 countries/regions.

    The program draws its power from the fact that over 3.2 million users report spam as they receive it, with a single click. Once several users have reported the same spam message, it is automatically filtered for all other users.
