Recently SPAMfighter announced new improvements made for detecting the latest forms of image spam mail, as well as other new tricks used by spammers. Overall, this means all around better filtering for SPAMfighter users. Most spam filters available on the internet today are Bayesian filters. These are currently only text-based, making it impossible the filtering of image spam mails, which is the latest big threat from spammers. SPAMfighter has always used a unique signature-based filter, which detects both text-based spam mails, as well as these image spam mails.
Co-owner and co-founder Martin Thorborg, stated: "After working extremely hard to stay on top of the spammers new tricks, we have made some great improvements to the SPAMfighter filter, filtering out the newest forms of spam mails. We will continue to stay on the spammers and offer the best filtering we can."
The new version of SPAMfighter contains a major upgrade of the spam detection engine. This engine runs a number of local tests to catch suspicious e-mails. This will increase the number of spam mails recognized and filtered by SPAMfighter. SPAMfighter has improved the detection of new forms of spam. One example is spam mails that attempt to conceal text images by rotating, or splitting images into puzzles making it hard for spam filters to detect. Another form of spam mail has text inside the attached image parts. SPAMfighter can now detect the text inside these images and filter them if necessary.
For example of a new spam mail that SPAMfighter can filter is those that attempt to fake the e-mail header. This means, they forge the sending IP address, claiming to be sending from one e-mail client while they are sending from another. The SPAMfighter core engine has been created to use the IP address to trigger a spam classification on suspicious e-mails.
SPAMfighter is a community spam filter, giving users the power to report spam mails. Once an e-mail has been reported enough times, it will be automatically filtered for all other SPAMfighter users. Even more, SPAMfighter scans spam mails with the core engine using a spam algorithm to determine if an e-mail is spam. With the latest update of SPAMfighter, users are protected against the latest forms of spam mails.
SPAMfighter works based on fact that over 3.4 million users report spam as they receive it, with a single click. Once several users have reported the same spam message, it is automatically filtered for all other users. The result is that approximately 90 percent of all spam is filtered out before it reaches any given user. More information about SPAMfighter is available here: www.spamfighter.com
