The release of a new version of a widget used to transfer files securely between a user's computer and a server secure the Secure File Transfer Protocol, called Rad SFTP, was announced by Rad Inks. With SFTP all data transfers are encrypted to ensure maximum protection of your data, unlike the more traditional File Transfer Protocol.

Making it unnecessary for the user to install any software on his computer, Rad SFTP runs in the browser. The ablity to upload and download entire folder trees, directory management and all other functionality expected of a File Transfer Program are included in it's rich feature set.

Having all the features expected of a file transfer program, the widget is light weight and starts up almost instantly. With a low resource consumption, a single installation of the software on a website can be made use of by any number of users.

Despite the similarity in name with the File Transfer Protocol, the Rad Inks Secure FTP client makes use of the SSH FTP protocol which is a much more secure system. All the data and commands, with FTP are transferred between the client and the server in plain text. Thus with FTP even user names and passwords are transmitted in the clear without encryption. Embracing more secure SFTP systems where all the commands and data are transferred with encryption, security conscious webmasters and organizations are moving away from FTP.

The Rad SFTP applet was first released by Rad Inks in 2003 and at the time the product was featured on the official Java website and received high ratings from many software reviewers. The company has made a series of other ground breaking products since then, and many of them are being used by numerous fortune 500 companies.
