A new version of the MIMEsweeper Email Appliance has been announced recently by Clearswift. The company tries to simplify IT managers’ administration of email and web gateway security and improve organizations’ ability to prevent data loss and meet regulatory requirements with the introduction of unified policy management for both web and email content security in the new MIMEsweeper Email Appliance Version 2.6.
Alyn Hockey, Technical Director at Clearswift, stated: “This new version of the MIMEsweeper Email Appliance contains a whole host of new features designed to simplify email and web management for IT administrators, eradicate spam and to help businesses stop data loss and comply with industry regulations. The ability to centrally manage policies across both the Email and Web Appliances will save our customers time and money and enable consistency across both systems where required.”
The new product has an unified console that offers central email and web policy management from a single place where Clearswift clients can now define and administer one single policy, applicable to both email and web traffic. Or, if requested, clients can centrally manage different, tailored web and email policies from one console. With companies around the globe required to adhere to a range of regulations and country-specific information privacy laws, as well as guarding sensitive and personally identifiable information, the ability to deploy consistent policies across email and web – plus demonstrate how the policy is managed and enforced to prevent information loss – is vital.
The company has launched support for virtual and ‘soft’ appliances. The MIMEsweeper Email Appliance VM5 can now be installed onto a VMWare ESX server and the MIMEsweeper Email Appliance VA5 can be installed onto Clearswift approved hardware platforms such as IBM and HP. These ‘soft’ and virtual appliances can be used in conjunction with physical appliances operating in the same peer group. MIMEsweeper Email Appliance version 2.6 offers several new strengthened anti-spam features with a brand new anti-spam engine, improved spam detection, greylisting, and TRUSTmanager™ enhancements.
They have also added Greylisting to the battery of anti-spam utilities existent in the MIMEsweeper Email Appliance and integrated it with the TRUSTmanager reputation service to avoid legitimate email from being delayed. The latest version of TRUSTmanager now returns finer reputation: whereas the email appliance previously had the function to either Accept or Reject email, version 2.6 provides additional levels of trust, which streamline messages through the system. The four reputation bands are now Good, Neutral, Suspicious and Bad.
