The LifeKeeper® Protection Suite for IBM Rational ClearCase has become the first Linux clustering solution to receive IBM's "Ready for IBM Rational" validation. The company, SteelEye Technology® Inc., announced the validation a few days ago. This validation brings evidence about the good integration with key products in IBM Software Development Platform products.
Bob Williamson, vice president of products and technology for SteelEye Technology, Inc., stated: "The openness and cost benefits of Linux are key factors that are driving its adoption as the platform of choice by software development organizations worldwide. The LifeKeeper Protection Suite for Rational ClearCase ensures that development teams utilizing the power of Rational ClearCase can also take advantage of the benefits of Linux while ensuring the highest levels of availability protection of their development environment."
LifeKeeper brings a mechanism to monitor and recover protected ClearCase services either locally on the same server where the processes are currently running or from a failed primary server onto a backup server. The product seamlessly integrates into Rational ClearCase environments to offer monitoring and failover protection of the entire Rational ClearCase environment running on Linux, including the Registry Server, Release Area, and Versioned Object Base (VOB) and View Storage. This solution detects failures either at the server level (via a heartbeat) or resource level (by monitoring the ClearCase daemons), so that control of the protected Rational ClearCase services is sent to a backup server. LifeKeeper provides full support for multi-site and single-site configurations.
SteelEye LifeKeeper for Rational ClearCase is certified for ClearCase v7 running on both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE SLES Linux. The LifeKeeper Protection Suite for Rational ClearCase ensures that development teams using the power of Rational ClearCase can also take advantage of the impotant functions of Linux while ensuring the highest levels of availability protection of their development environment. The solution's first public demonstration was at the IBM Rational Software Development Conference in Orlando, Florida.
SteelEye LifeKeeper provides information replication, high availability clustering and wide-area automated disaster recovery, in a single, scalable, affordable solution. SteelEye LifeKeeper brings enterprise-grade reliability while reducing implementation with certified support for a wide range of applications, databases, servers and storage options in Linux and Windows environments, including Rational ClearCase, Oracle, Microsoft Exchange, DB2, SAP NetWeaver, Microsoft SQL Server and WebSphere MQ. A key benefit of the SteelEye LifeKeeper solutionset is the capacity to implement "scalable availability." This enables organizations to implement an application-centric solution that meets their availability requirements today, while offering an integrated path to evolve as business, operational and application requirements change over time.
