IBM is ranked by the analyst firm IDC as the worldwide revenue share leader in the identity and access management software marketplace based on total revenue for 2006. This is due to strength of key offerings such as Tivoli Identity Manager, Tivoli Access Manager and Tivoli Federated Identity Manager. IBM Tivoli Access Manager for Enterprise Single Sign-On is one such offering that acts like a password concierge service. With it, users log-in with a user name and password once, and the software automatically enters in subsequent user names and passwords as additional systems -- such as email, desktop software and hosted partner solutions -- are accessed. The product also permits users to reset their own passwords if they are forgotten or expired, diminishing the need to call a helpdesk.

Rohm and Haas, is a well-known materials manufacturer with customers in more than 100 countries. The company leaders expect this access management solution to raise employee efficiency and to bring important cost savings on IT support. With more than 14,000 password-related calls to its help desk last year, and an average of 15 minutes of lost productivity per password incident, Rohm and Haas decided to streamline password management for their 14,000 employees.

Scott Megill, Enterprise Architect & Program Manager, Rohm and Haas, said:"We alerted our help desk before rolling out IBM’s single sign-on software to our remaining 13,000 employees and originally thought our systems management server had failed when we received less than 10 related calls on launch day. In fact, we had a smooth transition, and over the next couple of days we monitored a ramp-up of users storing passwords at an average of six per employee, and we expect that to grow."

Even more, in 2006, IBM announced the availability of Tivoli Identity Manager and Tivoli Federated Identity Manager for the IBM System z mainframe in addition to new entry-level products geared to the identity management needs of small to medium-sized businesses -- Tivoli Identity Manager Express and Tivoli Federated Identity Manager Business Gateway.

Al Zollar, general manager, IBM Tivoli software, said: "A growing number of customers of all sizes are looking for identity and access management solutions to help automate the process of managing and securing access to their valuable data. IBM is committed to providing leading technologies to help secure our clients’ greatest assets, lower their IT costs and improve their overall data governance and risk management programs."
