Each day, more of the applications, devices, and services that companies, consumers and citizens rely on are network-based. They all have an IP address. This includes e-commerce applications, telecommunications systems, critical care devices in hospitals, banking system and control systems for the power grid, to name a few. And, these all rely on commercial or custom software that have vulnerabilities that can be exploited remotely. Third Brigade's security software was selected today by AtlantiCare , a not-for-profit healthcare organization from southeastern New Jersey with more than 4,400 employees and 60 locations. The company Third Brigade is specialized in host intrusion prevention systems.

The EHR and other medical and administrative systems of AtlantiCare are properly secured from cyber attacks. As there is an increased accessibility of e-health and enterprise systems via the Internet, it has become absolutely necessary to protect the availability and integrity of these systems, and the confidentially of sensitive patient and medical data. The best solution for this is host intrusion prevention.

Daniel Morreale, CIO of AtlantiCare, stated: "We recognize the importance of staying ahead of the latest threats, and implementing security best practices to protect our critical e-health systems, and to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. Third Brigade’s host intrusion prevention system reduces vulnerabilities by shielding us from known and zero-hour threats. And by acting as a virtual patch, it shields hard-to-patch and unpatchable systems, and allows us to test and deploy vendor-supplied patches more thoroughly and efficiently."

The services offered by Third Brigade Deep Security include firewall and intrusion detection and prevention, down to individual computers and devices. Vulnerabilities existing in Windows, Linux and Unix operating systems are taken care of. In addition, enterprise and web applications that healthcare providers use are also protected.

Wael Mohamed, President and CEO of Third Brigade said: “Third Brigade helps AtlantiCare comply with tough industry regulations such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes-Oxley, and Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA). Healthcare leaders like AtlantiCare are being proactive in ensuring their EHR and other medical and administrative systems are properly secured from cyber attacks.”
The regional healthcare organization Atlanticare includes AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC), the AtlantiCare Foundation, AtlantiCare Health Plans, AtlantiCare Behavioral Health and AtlantiCare Health Services.

Host intrusion defense systems are provided by Third Brigade (www.thirdbrigade.com) to organizations that need to detect and prevent attacks that exploit vulnerabilities in their systems. The 24-7 availability of crytical systems is ensured, while software vulnerabilities can be patched. Thus, the services offered online by organizations can be more secure.
