A leading provider of database software for business intelligence, Greenplum, announced today that former President and Co-Chief Operating Officer of NYSE Group Jerry Putnam has joined the Greenplum Board of Directors.
Being most recently President and Co-Chief Operating Officer of NYSE Group, Inc. where he was responsible for the Group's market operations, new products, technology initiatives, and information business, Putnam has extensive experience in the securities industry. Putnam founded, prior to this role, an all-electronic exchange based in Chicago, Archipelago Holdings, Inc., which merged with the New York Stock Exchange in 2006. He was instrumental in attracting major investors from the institutional and retail sectors at Archipelago Holdings, and was a leader in industry consolidation and transformed Archipelago into a public company. At the New York Stock Exchange, he assisted the organization as it adjusted to the rapid changes in the world's equities markets, helping it to establish a global footprint through mergers, partnerships and other alliances with international exchanges. Putnam founded, prior to these roles, Terra Nova, an on-line broker-dealer, and held positions at several financial firms. He was named one of Time Magazine's Outstanding Innovators in October 2000 and he is a member of the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame sponsored by the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Jerry Putnam, former NYSE President and Co-COO, said: "Greenplum's business model and technology are an ideal fit for today's financial markets, as explosive growth in data continues to push existing system capabilities to their limits". "Just as Archipelago and NYSE were able to transform the financial services industry by leveraging network computing, so too does Greenplum have the potential to dramatically expand what is possible in these markets with its high-performance and scalable database technology. I look forward to working with Greenplum to expand its reach into financial services as well as more broadly on the world stage."
CEO of Greenplum, Bill Cook, said: "We anticipate that Jerry's expertise on the world's exchanges will prove invaluable as Greenplum's technology is adopted by a more international audience".
"The data explosion is impacting companies in almost every industry in businesses across the globe, and we are privileged to have Jerry's immense experience and counsel supporting us as we take our G3 database technology into new markets."
