The release of a new case study highlighting the success an electronic publishing company has had using the web-based docmetrics application to identify and prevent unauthorized content sharing has been announced today by the leading name in smart document technology for PDF security and tracking, Vitrium Systems.Market Media, based in Richmond, Virginia, publishes a weekly report called Lodging Development, which tracks development and transactions in hotel real estate. Lodging Development is delivered exclusively as a PDF download, sold according to a license-based subscription model.
Market Media suspected that some customers were misusing their license agreements by passing reports along to unauthorized readers. In order to measure how widespread misuse of license agreements had become and identify specific instances of unauthorized document sharing, the company adopted docmetrics.
Market Media was able to get value from docmetrics extremely quickly, thanks to the application's user-friendly Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) interface. "There's a very short learning curve with docmetrics. I like the fact that it's so usable - you can just dig right in", declared Jack Elsner of Market Media.
Leveraging the docmetrics system's unique PDF tracking technology allowed Market Media to identify the extent to which certain clients were exceeding their license agreements. To negotiate appropriate new license agreements with these clients, the company used the reader data collected by docmetrics.
