During the Cisco Partner Summit 2008 held in Honolulu, Hawaii, the announcement was made during an awards ceremony held on April 9, 2008.

To partners who meet a specific set of requirements that are designed to identify partner leadership within Cisco's key business theatres are conferred Cisco's annual partner awards. The achievement of outstanding performance including customer satisfaction levels, technical leadership, year over year growth of Cisco sales, and compliance with the requirements of the Cisco Channel Partner Program are selection criteria for Partner of the Year. To identify those that have demonstrated leading performance within each theatre, the awards are the culmination of a formalized Cisco nomination and selection process that begins with the consideration of more than 3,000 Cisco channel partners.
