The two companies, Oracle and Symantec, recently announced certification of Veritas data center software with Oracle Enterprise Linux. The certification is a response to growing customer demand for the Oracle® Unbreakable Linux support program, and it will help organizations running Symantec on Linux diminish deployment time and implementation costs.
Wim Coekaerts, vice president, Linux Engineering at Oracle, stated: "The Oracle Unbreakable Linux support program continues to demonstrate strong momentum as we expand our work with industry leaders to help simplify the adoption, development and deployment of Linux in the enterprise. Enterprise customers adopting Linux want to leverage the enterprise storage management and high availability processes and standards that are mainstays in their UNIX environments. As a result of our work with Symantec, we are making it easier for customers to deploy Symantec solutions with Oracle Enterprise Linux."
In addition, Rob Soderbery, senior vice president of Symantec’s Storage Foundation Group, said: "Adopting a standardized software infrastructure that supports the heterogeneous data center enables organizations to reduce complexity and drive costs down while increasing service levels. By continuing our work with Oracle, our customers will now have the choice of deploying Veritas high availability, data protection, and storage management solutions across every major operating system in their data center -- including Oracle Enterprise Linux."
To help drive the adoption of Linux in the enterprise, the Oracle Unbreakable Linux was launched in 2006, to offer customers with industry-leading global support for Linux. Oracle Enterprise Linux, a feature of the Oracle Unbreakable Linux program, is fully compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. With this latest certification, Oracle Unbreakable Linux support clients deploying Veritas solutions with Oracle Enterprise Linux will get enterprise-quality support from both vendors. The certification spans the following six Veritas information center software products: Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0; Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle 5.0; Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System 5.0; Veritas Cluster Server 5.0, Veritas NetBackup 6.0 Client and Veritas i3.
Symantec also worked with Oracle to certify Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System with Oracle Real Application Clusters on Oracle Enterprise Linux, Red Hat and SUSE. This will offer Oracle Real Application Clusters customers running Linux the option to deploy Symantec’s scalable file system and enterprise storage management solution.
