More companies expect an increase in audit activity this year according to the 2007 IT Trends Survey. The study was published by Eracent, Inc., a leading IT and business solutions provider, the survey estimated buying decisions as influenced by financial factors and IT cost saving initiatives.

Walter Szablowski, president, said: "Technology changes swiftly and with it the challenges that IT professionals face. An increase in audit frequency is very understandable; the true test is ensuring that your company has the right audit and software reconciliation solution to address these changing technology needs."

Among the survey results we can find:

Above 61% of the respondents answered that they expect an increase in audit activity, which the respondents further supported with 78% anticipating the purchase or use of a software license reconciliation solution. The timing of these responses correlates to the ongoing audit activities by suppliers such as Adobe and Microsoft.

Software license compliance (68% of respondents) and software standards compliance (62% of respondents) were among the top five funded IT initiatives reported in the survey. The overall results of the survey indicate that IT decisions are mostly driven by return on investment, potential savings and risk abatement. The adoption of software purchase planning and automation for compliance are best examples of business initiatives that will fulfill financial goals. Building in-house software management for compliance and business management relationships is the best insurance against inflationary spending on software that may or may not be actually needed by the organization.

More than 3,000 IT professionals from a broad array of companies and organizations were surveyed in February 2007 and asked about their IT initiatives, enterprise software platforms, IT asset management activities and where they go for industry information.
